Everything is ready on the Portimao circuit in the Algarve region for the first free practice sessions scheduled for today that will open the 2nd of the 4 events of the FIA European Championship OK and OKJ. The Portuguese circuit is among the most loved by drivers and will guarantee a great show in both categories.
The CRG Racing Team will compete with 9 drivers: Manuel Miguez and Mats Van Rooijen in OK Junior, while in the top class it will field Viktor Gustavsson with TM engines as a wild card, in addition to the drivers with Iame engines, Davide Bottaro, Sebastian Minns, Maria Neto, Alois Girardet, Clovis Nougueryed and Maximo Toviggino. The program will include qualifying on Friday, then the heats on Saturday and on Sunday the Pre-Finals in the morning and the Finals in the afternoon.
Last weekend the COTF preparation race provided good indications to the team, especially in the Junior category where Manuel Miguez was the protagonist of a solid weekend finishing in the top ten. But also Viktor Gustavsson in OK has always been among the fastest and has completed an excellent work program that allows him to look with optimism to this weekend’s race. The other OK drivers have also done a good job of preparing for this important meeting and will certainly be able to be protagonists of the event. To follow the action on the track, the live timing will be available and from Saturday also the live streaming on the official website of the championship (fiakarting.com).
Jeremy Iglesias, CRG Team Principal, introduces this important weekend: “We start this race weekend with the awareness of having done an excellent job in testing and also in the COTF race last weekend. We were positively surprised by how at ease Manuel Miguez felt with the chassis and engines upon his return to the team and we believe he can confirm himself among the fastest also this weekend. In OKJ we have an excellent balance and if there are no episodes that will affect the qualifying path we can certainly run a good weekend. The same goes for OK, both with Viktor who will use TM engines and with the other Iame drivers. I must say that everyone immediately had a good feeling with the track and our chassis also on this occasion adapted well to the circuit layout and the tyres. The goal will be to score points and move up the standings after the first not very lucky race of the season.”
