This weekend, at the Rødby circuit in Denmark, the final round of the four-race FIA European Championship for OK and OK Junior will take place. The paddock for the direct-drive categories has been in Denmark for over ten days, as all the teams took part in the pre-race COTF last weekend and in collective testing the week before.
It’s a significant technical and logistical commitment for this European Championship, which, after the opening race in Portugal, moved on to Spain, then Italy, and will now conclude in Denmark.
The CRG Racing Team drivers have not been front-runners as in the last two editions, and in this final event, since all are out of championship contention, the main goal will be to gain mileage in a highly competitive environment and to work on engine development, as well as on some chassis updates ahead of the World Championship in Sweden.
This approach to the race is also evident from the presence of Viktor Gustavsson, who will take to the track with TM engines, like his teammates Maria Neto and Davide Bottaro. Competing with Iame engines will be Clovis Nougueyrede in the OK category and Spanish driver Manuel Miguez in OK Junior.
The weekend schedule will follow the classic FIA race format, with free practice sessions concentrated on Thursday, followed by qualifying and the first heats on Friday. Saturday will be entirely dedicated to heats, while Sunday will conclude with the Super Heats and the finals.
Live timing and live streaming will be available on the official FIA Karting website.
Team Principal of CRG, Jeremy Iglesias, introduces the event as follows:
“After having arrived at the final round of the OK – OK Junior European Championship in the past three years with something important to fight for, this year, being out of the top 3 in both categories is certainly not a pleasant feeling for the team. We know our potential, and several factors — not least adapting to the tires used in these categories — have penalized us. We’ve been looking ahead for several weeks already, particularly to the World Championship, and that’s why we’re here with many new developments on the engines and some chassis upgrades. After last weekend’s COTF race, we’re satisfied with the work done and we all hope to finish this championship with a good result.”
