This week, from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 July, the second and final round of the FIA European Championship KZ-KZ2 is set to take place. Following the dominant performance delivered in Genk by the CRG Racing Team, which claimed victory in the KZ race with Adrian Malheiro and came very close to a sensational one-two finish with Viktor Gustafsson — who was stopped by contact with his teammate just a few corners from the chequered flag — expectations are very high for the decisive home round. Nothing can be taken for granted, given the extremely competitive level of the opposition, but the pre-race testing sessions have once again confirmed the full potential of the CRG-TM technical package. The team will work with its usual determination to bring the title home.

CRG colours also shone in KZ2 and, after Round 1 in Belgium, three drivers sit inside the top ten of the provisional standings: Daniel Maciá in 6th position, Alois Girardet in 9th and Jean Luyet in 10th. The title fight therefore remains wide open in both categories, with every stage of the event set to play a crucial role, as points will be awarded after the Heats — based on the intermediate classification of penalties — as well as in the Super Heat and the Final, where 50 points will go to the winner.

The event schedule will follow the usual FIA format, with free practice on Thursday, qualifying practice and the opening Heats on Friday, more Heats on Saturday and, finally, the Super Heats and Finals on Sunday. From Friday onwards, the event will be available to watch via live streaming on the promoter’s website, www.fiakarting.com, while karting fans attending the circuit will benefit from free admission.

CRG Team Principal Jeremy Iglesias introduced this important event as follows: “The team has done a strong job in the first part of the season and we are now reaping the rewards of that work, not only on the chassis side but also from an engine perspective together with our partner TM. It is a bit of a shame for the points Viktor lost in Genk, but we believe he still has a chance to get back into the title fight with a little bit of luck, and he will be able to race flat out from the very first Heat without having to make calculations. As for Adrian, we will try to manage the evolution of the weekend also according to the performance of our direct rivals.”
