During a meeting which took place in the last few weeks in Paris, FIA has made official the 2023 karting season calendar, as well as the introduction of OK-N engines to relaunch basic activity in the national Championships.
As for the sporting calendar, the most important change concerns the choice of competing in the FIA World Championship OK-OK Junior in Italy on the Franciacorta track, where the direct drive classes will compete from 5th to 8th October. After hosting a stage of the Euro OK and OK Junior in 2022 as its first FIA race, the Franciacorta circuit, which was inaugurated this year, will organize one of the two main events of the season in 2023, keeping Italy at the center of attention for what concerns the FIA races. Another important event will take place in Italy in 2023 as the last round of the OK-OKJ European Championship is scheduled at the 7 Laghi Kart circuit in Castelletto di Branduzzo, from 27th to 30th July.
In 2023 we will also get back to Denmark at the Rødby Karting Ring, again for the FIA Karting European Championship – OK – OKJ and for the first time we will race on the new Steel Ring Trinec track in the Czech Republic, while the inaugural appointment of the season will be in Valencia already in March.
As for the KZ classes, however, the Wackersdorf track in Germany has been chosen for the FIA World Championship and will take place on the weekend of September 10th, while the Euro will have two Rounds: the first in Zuera in Spain in April and the second in Italy in Sarno on the weekend of July 9th.
As mentioned before, the news for 2023 will not only concern the choice of locations on the calendar, but also see the introduction of a new category, the OK-N which aims to revitalize and promote karting at national level with regulations that favor the cost reduction. The Sporting Regulations in fact provide for the use of a single chassis and a single engine (derived from the current OK one), as well as a limited number of sets of tires. The new category will have its own International meeting called FIA Karting World Cup OK-N and participants will have to qualify through national events. To ensure the development of this promotional project, the FIA will recommend ASNs to organizeo the qualifying events in the lead up to the World Cup. This initiative should allow many ASNs, which currently assign their national titles to single-make categories, to organize National Championships with international homologation classes, both for chassis and for engines.
