The long approaching program to the Fia World Championship of the OK and OK Junior categories begins this weekend with the WSK Euro on the Franciacorta track, an event scheduled from 5th to 8th October on the Lombard track. There will be 3 preparatory races for teams and drivers in view of the most important event of the season for the direct drive classes: the 1st round of the WSK Euro is scheduled from tomorrow to Sunday 3rd September, followed by the Champions of the Future which will take place from 13th to 16th September and, finally, the Italian OK & OK Junior Championship from 21st to 24th September.
In each of these events, which will take place with the same tyres of the World Championship, the OK and OK Junior categories will register a high number of entries with all the best drivers in action to define the set up and technical materials for the October event, when the stakes will be the most important of the season. This September will be a long journey to approach the World Championship and the first stage of this journey on the Franciacorta track will already give the first important hints on the potential protagonists in both categories.
The CRG Racing Team will line up 5 drivers in OK Junior (Klara Kowalczyk, Alois Girardet, Oliver Rasmussen, Enzo Nienkoter and Nikita Nikishov) and 8 in the OK top class, where the European Vice-Champion Gabriel Gomez will certainly be among the protagonists, together with Simone Bianco, Mattia Colnaghi, Louis Iglesias, Michael Ider, Jakub Rajski, Simon Rechenmacher and Dmytro Mozghovoi. The Junior drivers will all use TM engines managed by Machac Motors, while in OK all the drivers will use Iame engines from BM Motors. This weekend the OK-N and OK-N Junior classes will also compete and, on the occasion of the World Championship in October, they will compete in the World Cup of their category. The CRG team will line up in these promotional categories, wanted by the Fia, Asher Ochstein in Junior, as well as three drivers in the Mini class: Cristian Blandino, Oliver Zwinger and Adam Bryla. The event program will be spread over 5 days with free practice on Wednesday and Thursday, while qualifying practice and the first heats will take place on Friday, which will also continue on Saturday. Finally, on Sunday the pre-finals and the Finals will be held in live streaming on the WSK official website. The 2nd and final round of the WSK Euro Series will take place in Sarno in October.
The expectations of CRG drivers
Gabriel Gomez (OK): “It will be an intense month of September to prepare for the World Championship. We have many things to test from a technical point of view and also for us drivers each race will be important to find the pace and the feeling with the track. We have many expectations because we know we can be very competitive, both for the chassis part and for the Iame engines from BM Motors. After this race we will have the first important data to analyze and having very competitive teammates in this preparation process will be very useful”.
Oliver Rasmussen (OK Junior): “This was my first season in OK Junior and I had different experiences taking part in both national and occasionally international races where the level is very high. Now the most important month of the year has arrived as we approach the World Championship in October and I hope to be ready and competitive for this important event. We have three useful races ahead of us to get to this event prepared in the best possible way, especially as regards my driving performance. We know we have a competitive technical package and a high-level technical staff, all of which are useful to have high expectations”.
